Quality Control (QC) Manager

Position Summary

The Quality control manager ensures that manufacturing production lines run smoothly and generate a consistently suitable output for their employers. The Quality Manager leads, directs and coordinates the activities of the Quality Control department. In addition, this position will assist in developing and implementing Quality policies, procedures, and methods. The quality control manager position develops, implements and manages quality control systems designed to ensure continuous production of advanced composite materials and applications (consistent with established standards, customer specifications and production goals). The position supervises a team of quality control inspectors.


Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline is preferred; or equivalent work experience.


  • At least 10+ years of management-level experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Understand technical specifications, procedures, and terminology.

  • Working knowledge of Lean.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Capable of working, standing and walking for extended periods in manufacturing environments.

  • Certified Welding Inspector License (CWI) preferred

  • Experience inspecting structural, pressure vessels, and piping a must.


  • Build, train, and direct a team of QC inspectors and QC support staff to achieve a strong technical organization.

  • Establish internal processes throughout the department that represent the company’s best practices.

  • Evaluate existing metrics for appropriateness, implement new ones as necessary, and analyze for ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Assume management responsibility for meeting production requirements, cost containment, and final product quality to ensure that all products meet the customer’s satisfaction.

  • Work with HSE management to ensure that safety is a focus throughout the organization.

  • Communicate effectively interdepartmentally to address issues with sales, manufacturing, and warehouse departments.

  • Constantly monitor current industry trends and new concepts and recommend implementation of those deemed appropriate for the company to achieve “Best in Class” status in the industry.

  • Interact with other departments to coordinate and optimize inspection activities.

  • Apply understanding of ISO specifications and procedures.

  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of licensor specifications, requirements, and procedures.

  • Utilize knowledge and understanding of quality system and calibration lab requirements.

  • Operate under organizations requirements and procedures, as well as, customer, industry, and licensor requirements.

  • Working knowledge of preforming welder qualification, writing welder certifications, PQR’s for WPS qualification.

  • Must be able to read and interpret ISO drawings.

  • Must be able to apply applicable WPS’s and qualified welders for individual Projects/ISO drawings.

  • Verify that adequate and valid welder approvals are available, and that only approved welders are used in production.

  • Working knowledge of preforming welder qualification, writing welder certifications, PQR’s for WPS qualification.

  • Effectively apply resources (or personnel) to ensure efficient operation of the department.


  • Requires personal computing skills in Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook and Word.

  • Able to participate in solving difficult technical issues.

  • Ability to find solutions derived from available resources provided internally through senior leaders and established policies and procedures.

  • Contributes to implementation plan development and program coordination.

  • Ability to prepare reports, is detail oriented and organized and communicates effectivly.

  • Excellent problem solving skills.

  • Understand the fundamentals of SMAW, SAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, PAW.

  • Understand the fundamentals of VT, MT, UT, PT, RT quality procedures and quality audits/surveillance.

  • Understand the fundamentals of welding metallurgy.

  • Understand welding symbols and interprets drawings.
